Our Lady of Custonaci
Custonaci is "Civitas Mariae". In fact, the cult of Maria Santissima of Custonaci is strongly felt, that also patroness of Erice and the whole agro Erice. Tradition has it that starts after the gift of a painting of a Madonna and child, made by a French ship carrying the painting and who escaped in a storm, having invoked Mary, taking refuge in the Bay of Cornino.
Si is actually a oil painting, painting on wood prepared with plaster, and dates back to the 15th century, work of the school of Antonello da Messina depicting the Madonna suckling the infant Jesus, preserved in the local shrine.
The image was solemnly crowned by the Vatican chapter in 1752 by Pope Clement XIII.
On 26 February 2009 after 73 years was carried in procession on painting of the Madonna in a particularly felt by the people.
The living crib every year, since 1983, during the Christmas period, the living nativity scene takes place in the Mangiapane Cave.
The rite of Spincia year there is the "Spincia fest" now in its 24th Edition, in honor of the typical of the area, the sfincia.
