THE ROCCA BRANCALEONE OF RAVENNA
The Rocca Brancaleone, built in the 15th century by Venetians, now houses one of Ravenna's parks in Emilia Romagna.
In the eighteenth century, the north face of the fort became a road.
In the nineteenth century part of the city walls on the east side were demolished, for the construction of the railway station.
In the 20th century, the fortress was surrounded by pedestrian green spaces, a parking lot and a small park.
The Rocca is composed of the fort where the castellano resided, and the citadel, which housed the troops.
The citadel area has now been equipped as a children's park, while the castle hosts a summer outdoor movie theater and musical events, such as the Ravenna Jazz Festival.
