CATHEDRAL OF SANTA MARIA DELLE GRAZIE IN PESCINA L'AQUILA
Cathedral of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Pescina
It is necessary for the bishop Matteo Colli to build between 1579 and 1596 of the cathedral dedicated to Our Lady of Grace.
It was consecrated on August 6, 1606 and in 1613 officially received Pope Paul V the title of the cathedral.
The church underwent several magnification efforts in the following centuries, up to the construction of the dome between 1863 and 1865. This construction was severely damaged by the earthquake that struck Marsica in 1915.
Rebuilt, was still damaged by the bombings of World War II.
Meanwhile, the seat of the diocese had been moved to Avezzano (1924), whereupon the church became the title of a cathedral.
The facade is divided into two by a stone frame.
The lower part consists of an atrium marked by five arches on which the three entrance halls of the Renaissance period open.
At the top there is a double order of windows and a small late Gothic rosette.
On the right side stands the bell tower of the '500.
